Arcade Video Games - Getting Back to Basics

Anyone who has been following the gaming industry for some time knows that things have advanced quite a lot since video arcade games became popular more than thirty years ago. More complex plots for games have arisen, characters are able to do far more complex things, and the sophistication of graphics technologies has gone through the roof.

All that said, serious gamers will have noticed something very interesting in an industry so dominated by technological advances. The thing is that people still love the old standbys of the past. Retro gaming is a huge part of the video game industry, and it’s getting bigger by the day.

Gamers, who started playing early on in the industry’s history, are looking for their favorite old games for their new console systems, and the major game manufacturers are responding to this desire.

You can now play many of the best retro arcade video games on systems like the Xbox and the Wii. Not only has this been a welcome change for older gamers, but retro games are finding a whole new audience in younger players.

You may be wondering why people want to play these lower tech games of the past given all the major advances that have occurred in game design. All you really have to do to find the answer to this is to play one of the games.

Sure, their graphics are a bit simplistic, and your characters may not have the ability to do as many different things as they would in a newer title, but these games are great!

I believe that what makes retro arcade video games so popular is the fact that they were well thought out, and designed in a way that makes playing them a bit addictive. You want to follow the plot so that you can reach the next level. You also want to find all those hidden little tricks and secret areas that you’ve heard about.

I really believe that these games remain successful simply because they capture the gamer’s interest, and don’t let go. Because of this, they can stand up against today’s high tech games.

If you have any doubts, check out some of the newly re-released classic arcade video games for your console. I think you’ll be pleased you did.
